Re Fireplace Pictures
Thank you for your help to myself and our contractor Mr Chuck Alexander of
Hickory Const Co. As the pictures indicate the fireplace is in place and
operating. We are delighted with the help we received from you and it is a
wonderful resource to have your service available--it is exactly the
fireplace we wanted. The cast iron surround we found at an antique shop in
Charleston SC this summer and it fit the opening perfectly as you can see.
The only complaint I have concerns the damper. It had no mechanism for
keeping it open and we had to cut notches and install brackets to get a way
of keeping it open. The handle is in the center which is a real problem if
you forget and have to open it after the fire is started and the metal is
just too light a guage for the purpose. I worry about how well it will
survive in its rust prone environment. A cast iron model with a side handle
would be a huge improvement.
Thank you again for all your help and with the exception of the damper I
would recommend your system to anyone looking for a wonderful efficient
fireplace.
