Hi Jim,
My name is John Donahue. I have worked in the masonry business for 18 years. I have had my own business now for the last 10 years. We are a small company, normally running with 5 full time employees. We have always been building the traditional masonry firebox, thinking that this is the best way it could be done, with the sides that aren't angled as much, a deeper box, the back wall leaning in, and solid masonry 8" below the damper. They do work, (I have one in my own home) but now that I have built the rumfords, (which are easier to build) and most importantly, more efficient, I am going to try to get most of the builders that we work with to switch to the rumford design.
