"before"

Let the demolition begin!

Home-owner, Bob, with Instructions and bag of HeatStop refractory mortar in gutted fireplace and ready to build Rumford

firebox built and throat set

Mason, Roger Mosgeller, takes a break after bricking up around smoke chamber. He will cut a piece of flue tile and mortar it in with refractory mortar to make the connection to the old flue.

The brick surround and arched top of the opening. The "pockets" on both sides behind the arch will be filled in with mortar to make a smooth streamlined transition to the rounded throat.

Bob, with finished Rumford. The antique andirons had been in Patti's family. Patti's grandmother gave them to her especially for the new 36" Rumford.
