This picture of a Rumford fireplace in Isleboro Maine is interesting because it seems to be recessed behind the interior wall without adding too drastic of a return. The angled surround is a good solution. Also interesting are the Hessian soldier andirons. Early Americans loved to see these images of the mercinary Hessian soldiers hired by the British burn in the fire. |
