Testing the Heatilator E-36 at OMNI

The Heatilator E-36 "low mass" fireplace that was tested at Myren Labs to develop a low mass fireplace fueling protocol was tested again at OMNI using the "Colorado Fueling Protocol" in order to calibrate the two fueling protocols.

Hearth dimensions of the E-36 are as follows. In the shape of a trapezoid the rear is 20" and the front is 30". Depth front to back is 14". Height to the smoke shelf is 16". All four tests conducted during the calibration run were conducted on a grate. At the time of this e-mail the grate had a fire on it and was unable to measure. - Bruce Davis, OMNI

Firebox Volume - 5,600 cu.in.
Opening Area - 480 sq.in. (3.3 sq.ft.)
Fuel crib loading factor of 4 x 3.33 sq.ft. would be 16.7 lb. - Calibrated.

Results for the original "calibration" series we conducted on a E36 Zero clearance fireplace with a grate are as follows.

Run number 1 and 2 were conducted on a grate using .15 loading factor and 0.625" spacers in the fuel load.

1: 2.72 kg/hr, 13.5 g/kg, 3.4#, 10.6#, 10.9#, 11.1#

2: 2.69 kg/hr, 13.1 g/kg, 4.4#, 10.6#, 11.4#, 11.5#

Run numbers 3 and 4 were conducted on a grate using .15 loading factor and 0.75" spacers in the fuel load.

3: 2.89 kg/hr, 10.7 g/kg, 4.7#, 10.3#, 11.4#, 12.0#

4: 2.77 kg/hr, 12.1 g/kg, 5.1#, 11.6#, 13.2#, 12.9#
