Draw Screens for Rumfords

We are not especially fond of standard draw screens fitted inside the fireplace openig. They bunch up at the sides of the fireplace blocking the opening and the track at the top can interfere with the laminar air flow under the Rumford throat.
Sometimes, however, draw screens monuted inside the fireplace openig are the only or best solution. But consider surface mounted on an inner surround.
Surface mounted Draw Screens are another matter altogether. The two styles shown below don't interfere in any way with the performance of the Rumford fireplace. For large fireplaces, these surface mounted draw screens may be the best solution compared with heavy free-standing screens.

Specify Undermounted or surface mounted bar
Screen is one piece 6" wider thant the fireplace opening on both sides and 3" lowere then the height of the opning. Screen is opened by sliding to to side or the other
Specifyt if the bar is to be surface monted rather than attached under a stoine mantle and we will make the screen 6" taller.

Best Standard Draw Screens

Heavy Bar Stock three sixteenths inch by two inch top bar in five finishes, upgrade 3/16" mesh curtain screens with 40% fullness and
"I-Beam" construction
I-Beam detail - overlap detail.
These are the best standard screens designed to fit just inside the fireplace opning. But, for a Rumford fireplace, the track, behind the decorative 2" top bar, causes turbulence through our streamlined rounded Rumford throat.
The screen could be surface mounted on a recessed inner surround maybe with the bar Stock frame carried down the sides or the screen could be mounted in a U channel track installed between the rough opening and the final surround.
