The 54" wide Rumford is a big fireplace, suitable for "great halls", as Rumford would have said. The individual throat sections used in this fireplace are more versitile than the one-piece Rumford throats and make it possible to build fireplaces of almost any size and configuration. Big Rumfords are sometimes used to build large kitchen cooking fireplaces which are not particularly efficient but are certainly traditional, functional and attractive. We can help with bread oven designs and cooking cranes. Superior Clay Corporation manufactures many different throats, smoke chambers and clay flue liners for Rumford fireplaces as well as Standard masonry fireplaces. Custom sizes and design help available. Check for more information about herringbone fireboxes, terra cotta mantels and decorative clay chimney pots.
