New Dormitory. Solid masonry construction with five Rumford fireplaces and five clay chimney pots. Owner: Elmira College, Elmira, New York Builder: Welliver McGuire, Inc. Architect: QPK Design Size: 61,004 square feet Expected Completion Date: Fall 2010 Summary: This state-of-the-art facility will be designed in traditional collegiate Gothic architectural style to match the rest of the campus and feature approximately 140 new beds, air conditioning, laundry facilities, as well as common places for the students. This dormitory is expected to open in the Fall of 2010. The project includes five working wood-burning Rumford fireplaces in Main Lounge and in lounge areas of several rooms. A slate roof design matches most of the dormitories already on campus and the building features Gothic style architecture including gargoyles, exterior reliefs and picture windows.
