Curious about the possibilities... Hoping to combine a cooking Rumford with a wood oven that could also accommodate a massive Yule log on occasion, I ask if any have had success and if there are certain design considerations to mind? The first of many I am sure: are there certain chimney flues that are better for one in a cold corner of Wisconsin?
For the record: my apologies for not sharing a photo of an actual Rumford but this image is meant more to depict dimensions that might show the possibility for all three: cooking Rumford, wood fire oven, and Yule hearth. Can one have them all? Any advice and leads welcomed.

I'm unclear whether this is a fireplace you've built or is a picture of one you'd like to build. In any case I like it and we can duplicate it. See https://www.rumford.com/CookingFireplaces.html

Jim Buckley I thank you for the link and the leads therein. This is a picture of some mystery fireplace I found through Pinterest. While the wood fire oven is strange set back, I like the idea of the added width for a huge Yule log. How wide do you suppose one could go with a Rumford without roasting the house and still managing the desirable draw? Would you center the flue or might it be better to offset it? Would off setting still allow the odd Yule log to burn broad?

That the oven in in the back of the firebox is unusual in cooking fireplaces built after 1760. About then the ovens came out beside the fireplace so not so many cooks caught their clothes on fire.

Grew up in a house finished 1799 that had one in the basement massive stone fireplace. Not to disagree, but as an anecdote.

Here in New England virtually all are built onto the side of the fireplace and most (if not all) share the same flue as the fireplace. Usually joining the frpl. flue about 8' off the floor. I'd guess the most common oven flue size in this application is about 4×10ish.

What do you mean, "onto the side of the fireplace"? Do you mean along side next to the fireplace or into the side or coving of the fireplace? Got any pictures?
