Custom Design Masonry The 36" Rumford "works great" except that in gusty wind conditions there are occasional downdrafts. We suspect the wind from the south flows up the roof and is diverted down into the chimney by the cap. The top of the chimney under the cap could be improved by sloping it away from the flue to make a crude Venturi so that as the wind blows through the cap, it would increase draft. And maybe the house, which is very tight, is too negatively pressured to begin with. Opening windows seems to help. Owners plan to install an air-to-air ventilation system. - Jim
