Reunion
Cornell in Honduras/Guatemala/Brazil

On June 13 and 14, 2010 about 40 alumni from the 1960s Cornell in Honduras, Guatemala and Brazil projects got together for a reunion in Ithaca.

The group created a facebook group and Suzan Lang wrote a nice article about the reunion in the Cornell Chronicle On Line so I won't repeat all that here.

Dear Mr. Buckley:

My name is Guillermo Houghton and I grew up in Santa Rita. We met there in 1962 when you were in a group of Cornell students, with Isao Fujimoto as your leader.

I was fifteen and remember that year as particularly bad, poverty everywhere and nobody could afford to take pictures, except for weddings and funerals. Then you came in with state of the art cameras and taking lots of pictures. I have visited your website and noted that you have a few treasures contributed by Bob Bernstein, namely CHILDRENSCHOOL600.JPG, JOEKIDS600.JPG and KIDS600.JPG. Bob captured a very large percentage of the male population of that age group.

To the point: there is group of santarritenyo kids in facebook collecting old pictures. Can I pass them on with your blessings or can you? I have noticed that you are a wizard with HTML.

Time goes by so quickly.

Saludos,
Guillermo

    Guillermo,

Terrific to hear from you. We just had a reunion of our Cornell in Honduras group and we also have a facebook group page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=300397973971 There you will find even more pictures of Santa Rita in 1962-4.

I wish you and your group of "santarritenyo kids" would join our group. I can't remember if anyone can just join or if you have to be invited so I will invite you. Please invite the others. And, of course, I would love to hear from you all and pass your old (and new) pictures on to the rest of the group who will be equally thrilled. Frankly our facebook group hasn't been very active since the reunion last summer but I'm sure that reconnecting with you "kids" would spark a re-interest.

Maybe you would also invite us to join your facebook group.

I will be very interested in getting caught up with you, Guillermo, and the other kids we knew over 40 years ago.

    Warm regards,
    Jim Buckley

I copy Alicia Michtom, who organized our reunion, and Isao Fugimoto who was guest of honor.
