Rumfords in Pakistan?

Great little practice doing excellent custom home in New England - mostly on Nantucket. Worked on some terrific projects. This house on Isleboro was a dream project for anyone who enjoys detailing. I spent an entire year designing the house. I saw that LPA were already listed in your Architect's list. We got interested in Rumfords when I was working there and since then they have done alot of Rumfords. You should ask them for pictures of some examples. Ask Jeff Spoelker. I have been in Pakistan since 1998. I am originally from Karachi, which is where my practice is now based. I see you have mentioned on your website that I was proposing Rumfords in the Karakoram mountains - which I have but it didn't work out. |

The landscape in the karakoram is very unforgiving and extremely poor. We were designing prototype village schools and had to count every penny in the process. The idea of a firepalce had to be dropped becasue of several reasons - too expensive to dress stone, not enough space in the rooms to get a safe distance from the fireplace and last but not least, cost of firewood. That whole exercise in my opinion remains unresolved. Good to hear from you.
