Jim,

Nice to hear from you. I was with Lyman Perry from 1993 to 1997. Great little practice doing excellent custom home in New England - mostly on Nantucket. Worked on some terrific projects. This house on Isleboro was a dream project for anyone who enjoys detailing. I spent an entire year designing the house. I saw that LPA were already listed in your Architect's list. We got interested in Rumfords when I was working there and since then they have done alot of Rumfords. You should ask them for pictures of some examples. Ask Jeff Spoelker.

I have been in Pakistan since 1998. I am originally from Karachi, which is where my practice is now based. I see you have mentioned on your website that I was proposing Rumfords in the Karakoram mountains - which I have but it didn't work out.

The landscape in the karakoram is very unforgiving and extremely poor. We were designing prototype village schools and had to count every penny in the process. The idea of a firepalce had to be dropped becasue of several reasons - too expensive to dress stone, not enough space in the rooms to get a safe distance from the fireplace and last but not least, cost of firewood. That whole exercise in my opinion remains unresolved.

Good to hear from you.

Regards
Arif Belgaumi

Ps I am attaching another picture of the house in Maine and a couple pictures of the Hunza valley in the Karakoram mountains.
