The San Francisco House (1998)

Creating a new focal point in the sanctuary, a Rumford fireplace replaced the altar in this conversion of a 1906 Arts and Crafts-style church into a single family home for homeowners Laurie Ann Bishop and Mark Dvorak. The project was featured in both This Old House Magazine and This Old House TV pruduced by WGBH.

The fireplace opening is five feet wide and four and a half feet tall and features Whitacre-Greer firebrick and Superior Clay Rumford components provided by McNear Brick & Block. Barbara Chambers of Chambers and Chambers, Architects was the architect and Dayton Masonry the masonry contractor.
